Anchoring and Adjustment in Software Estimation: Aranda & Easterbrook

Summary: The cognitive bias called anchoring affects software estimation. The authors show this scientifically.

The good: The paper builds the argument and the science, culminating with a revelation of a wonderfully strong effect.

The bad: The result is unsurprising. Maybe I’m biased because I already knew about anchoring, but to me this is an instance of science catching up to common sense.
