Notes on “Molecular Biology for Computer Scientists”

September 22, 2008

Molecular Biology for Computer Scientists: Lawrence Hunter. Chapter 1 in Artificial Intelligence & Molecular Biology.

This chapter was written at the instigation of Harold Morowitz, who understood long before I did that such an introduction could indeed be accomplished in less than 1000 pages.

The gist: An introduction to all of molecular biology in 45 pages, tailored to computer scientists. There is no central point that can be summarized.

The good: Lucid writing. A broad introduction to a fascinating topic. It makes me want to shell out fifty bucks for the book.

The bad: It makes me want to shell out fifty bucks for a book I don’t have time to read.
